Global Cleveland’s pilot program, the English and Pathways for Healthcare Professionals, graduated 19 students on Saturday, March 17. The five-month pilot program was designed to help immigrants with their English as well as find jobs that match the skills they developed in their home countries.
“Everyone was very thankful for the program, each for slightly different reasons” says Global Cleveland president Larry Miller. “They were very grateful for the experience -- it made Cleveland a very special place in their minds.”

The Cleveland Biomedical Job Fair is one of the area's first online job fairs. The event began Monday and continues until 5 p.m. Friday .
The job fair stands out not only because it offers a new way of recruiting, but because the event's organizers believe it can be a tool for attracting residents to Northeast Ohio. This is especially true in the biomedical field, which tends to have more openings than viable local candidates.

CLEVELAND - Registration is open for the first online Cleveland BioMedical Job Fair , which runs from March 26 through March 30.
Hosted by BioEnterprise, in partnership with Global Cleveland, the job fair features positions at more than 20 Cleveland-based biomedical companies. Those who create a profile by registering online may then apply to the positions of their choice.
Cleveland's biomedical industry has grown dramatically in the last nine years, from 300 companies in 2002 to over 700 companies in 2011.

Paprika! That's the name of the Hungarian community's annual black-tie celebration which will be held Saturday, March 3 in the grand ballroom of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in downtown Cleveland.
Hungarians will celebrate the creation of Global Cleveland, an initiative to welcome international cultures to Northeast Ohio, and recognize some of the achievements of Hungarian immigrants.
They will also honor Albert Ratner, one of the founders of Global Cleveland. The event includes dining and dancing to the international music of Harmonia and a performance by the Ohio Light Opera.

The long-awaited, much-anticipated opening last week of a Welcome Hub in Cleveland to retain and attract home-grown and international talent is a vital step in securing the future of this region.
It's part of a Global Cleveland initiative that hit the ground running last October with its "English and Pathways for Healthcare Professionals" classes at Cleveland State University. The free, six-month program targets the unemployed health care professional whose spouse has relocated here, often from overseas, to work at one of the area hospitals. The classes aim to keep skilled professionals in Cleveland by helping the spouses improve language skills and develop career paths back into medicine. The first 19 students graduate in March.

Global Cleveland President Larry Miller urged people to become volunteer ambassadors, helping to spread the message that Cleveland is a great place to pursue a career.
"We will build on this spirit," said Miller, the former vice president of human resources at Lubrizol Corp. "We intend to welcome people from all races, all places, all ages and creeds."
Masakazu Ishikawa took the bus from his lab at Case Western Reserve University and said he'll be back. The orthopedic surgeon from Japan has an idea for a biomedical business.
"I think Cleveland is the best place to do it," he explained. "This is my dream."

The city's first welcome center in modern times opened Tuesday near Public Square. Leaders of the Global Cleveland initiative steered about 200 civic leaders, politicians and downtown office workers toward their new headquarters, cut a ribbon and kicked off a crusade.
