Global Cleveland

Do you love to meet new people and talk about the great things Cleveland has to offer? Global Cleveland is looking for energetic and friendly individuals with a genuine passion and love for Cleveland to be ambassadors for our region. Specifically, ambassadors will reach out to newcomers, including:

Boomerangers: individuals originally from the Cleveland area who lived away for a number of years and recently returned

International newcomers: anyone new to the Cleveland area from outside of the U.S, this group can include individuals who are international students, expatriates and trailing family members and immigrant/refugees

Young professionals: anyone new to Cleveland who recently moved for a job or school


The individual needs of each newcomer to Cleveland vary and depend on their special circumstances. Overall, you can expect your volunteer ambassador experience to include some of the following:

• Giving a tour of your community (community the newcomer lives in or is interested in learning more about)
• Providing information on community resources, upcoming events, local businesses, schools, transportation, activities for recreation, where to shop (special needs, ethnic foods), where to worship, etc.
• Providing connections to special interest groups, individuals or social networks of similar interest, existing ethnic community members/organizations
• Attending an event together (networking event, happy hour, cultural celebration, etc.)
• Showing them around to different places to go eat or drink after work hours
• Inviting them to your home for a home cooked family dinner
• Having coffee or lunch to answer questions or provide information about living, working and having fun in the Cleveland area

In addition to volunteers serving as ambassadors to newcomers of the region, Global Cleveland also is looking to recruit Social Media Ambassadors. These individuals show their support for our region and Global Cleveland through positive online testimonies and promotion of Cleveland through blogs, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc. Follow @GlobalCleveland on Twitter and remember to use the #tweetforcle hash tag when talking positively about Cleveland.

Time Commitment

• Attend a volunteer orientation at Global Cleveland
• As needed basis – you will be contacted when a newcomer that best matches your interest and background is in need of an ambassador
• Meeting times are flexible – individuals decide what works best
• Contact involving email, phone, and face to face correspondence
• At least 1 face-to-face meeting

• Good listening, sense of humor

Requirements

• Must be at least 21 years old
• Willingness to share personal and professional experience
• Awareness of the region, your community and its resources in order to provide information about living, working and having fun in the Cleveland area
